Meet Dr. Michael Brooks, a distinguished general surgeon with over three decades of experience serving the communities of Fort Worth and Dallas. Born and bred in the historic Stop Six section of Fort Worth, Dr. Brooks’s roots run deep within this community. An alumnus of Nolan High School, he pursued his passion for medicine at Howard University in Washington D.C., where he completed an accelerated six-year program earning both his undergraduate and medical degrees.

Returning to Fort Worth in 1990, Dr. Brooks joined forces with his father, Dr. Donald Brooks, in private practice, carrying on a legacy of exceptional patient care. His commitment to the medical field extends beyond surgery, having held pivotal roles in medical staff leadership and community service. Dr. Brooks has served as Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff at Medical City Fort Worth, alongside leadership positions across several local hospitals. His contributions to medical education are notable, having been the Program Director of the Surgery Residency at Medical City Fort Worth and the North Texas Regional Medical Director for the Surgicalist Group.

Dr. Brooks’s dedication to community service is evident through his volunteer work with the UNCF telethon committee and board memberships at organizations like the Cassata Learning Center, Fort Worth Metropolitan Black Chamber of Commerce, and Southside Community Garden, among others. He has actively participated in health fairs for underserved communities and embarked on medical mission trips to Kenya and Nigeria, providing critical surgical services free of charge.

In 2021, Dr. Brooks’s contributions were recognized with his induction into the Nolan High School Hall of Fame, a testament to his lasting impact on the community and the field of medicine.

Outside the operating room, Dr. Brooks finds balance in yoga, group exercise, cooking, and gardening. His love for traveling reflects his adventurous spirit and commitment to learning and experiencing diverse cultures.
